Cursor and Gemini 2.5 Pro (Max)

Hey Cursor Team,

  • Why is Gemini 2.5 Pro Max listed as Anthropic? Is this a typo on the website?
  • The Gemini 2.5 Pro (not the Max) feels like it’s not integrated to agents completely and suggests me to manually apply the code myself. Is this an expected behaviour ?
  • Is Gemini 2.5 Pro Max charged like Claude 3.7 sonnet max and offers no free premium requests if you are a pro subscriber ?

I’m on my latest version of 0.48.X on my cursor. I have a MacBook Pro running the latest MacOS where I am running my cursor on.

Hey, yes, that was a typo, and it has already been corrected. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • We are still working on integrating this model into Cursor.
  • The Max model works on the same principle as the Claude Max model.

Thanks for the clarification! However, I believe the current Gemini 2.5 pro model with 1M context window is available for free on aistudio. Should you price it like the sonnet max, can we get into transparently communicating this in the forum on why a free preview model is priced ?

P.S: Off late, I’ve been observing like many others that the code generation and edits are getting really messy with large code bases or even sometimes single large files. With so much gap in your system, why would you still want to price ? Your USP against windsurf was to offer the continued slow requests despite the premium request consumed entirely. This looks like a bit of scam with no transparency at all. If this is going to be the trend, I believe like many others would (I assume) that you are soon going to lose a lot of loyal users who praised you to what you are today with just word of mouth marketing.

Just like the LLM market swayed, please remember having transparent discussions and avoiding to deviate from the fundamental vision of your product will help you stay in this ground for a long time.

I couldn’t agree more, why would I use cursor if it’s the same as paying for the API itself? There are so many other better options, They provided unlimited access to models, which is why we’re using them. Now they’re nerfing all the basic models and keep adding max paid models for pay/per usage

Agreed, I’m concerned for Cursor’s future if they keep going down the path they are.

LLMs are in a race to the bottom when it comes to cost/token, yet it feels like Cursor is doing the opposite while kneecapping flagship models with artificial constraints and not being transparent about it.

It’s only a matter of time before VSCode + an API key will be a substantially better deal than Cursor and provide a better experience. They need to start planning for that eventuality.
