Cursor deletes active git worktree regulary

Hello,

can anyone explain why Cursor deletes an active git worktree without asking if I want this?

Best regards

Hey @PlanB!

This looks a lot like Cursor removes active worktree directories and then closes/crashes unexpectedly, which spawned a bug report that is still open on our side. Could you have a look?

@kevinn also shared some tweaks that might help

Hi @Colin !

Thank you very much for your reply. The case you linked to has some similarities, but in my case the chat is still there and the Cursor app isn’t crashing. Perhaps the problem was triggered when I clicked the archive button on another chat. I have a question about this: where can I find archived chats?

You can filter for them here!

Just for your information: I’ve updated to the latest version. But before I did that, the issue occurred again. This time, it affected the other chat that I’d pinned. Perhaps this information will be helpful? In short:

  1. Pinned chat → archived
  2. Pinned chat → Git working directory was deleted

Perhaps it was just a coincidence that I haven’t been able to reproduce the error (so far).

That wasn’t the cause of the problem. It happened again. This time, I didn’t have any chats pinned. No chat was running. It just happened out of the blue.

For all chats … All worktrees are deleted

I’ve hit this twice and both times it has resulted in unacceptable data loss!

Most likely it is to do with worktree cleanup. This is a dangerous feature that should never run when there are unstaged changes in the worktree.

This should literally be the highest pri bug you have right now - randomly deleting user files for no reason!

The ā€œdata lossā€ we have paid for. I am pretty sure that I’ve lost 10% usage limit because of that. Beside the time, electricity, …
I hope they fix it soon. Had this issue with no other agent IDE. May I ask which OS you are running?

Windows.

It happened again! In case you have the same issue and you want a compensation:
```
Sorry about the git worktree issue you’ve been experiencing. Unfortunately, I’m not able to process a compensation request for your subscription as it doesn’t meet our refund eligibility requirements.
You can cancel your subscription anytime via the ā€˜Manage subscription’ button in your Cursor dashboard at https://cursor.com/dashboard. Your cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing cycle, and you’ll continue to have access until then.
