Cursor in auto keeps spawning opus 5 high agents for trivial tasks

I had as always my cursor in auto and out of nowhere it used 27% of my other models usage in a few minutes, it keeps spawning agents and specifically opus 5 high for anything I ask, no matter what, I cant use auto anymore, I switched to grok 4.5, any ideas? in the models I have grok 4.5 high fast as my subagent model…

I am on 3.15.6 (user setup), using cursor in wsl (fedora), in order to reproduce I just need to switch to auto, it instantly uses a subagent of specifically opus 5 high.

Does this stop you from using Cursor?

  • Yes - Cursor is unusable
  • Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor
  • No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Stay off Auto for small asks, use Ask or Plan when you don’t need Agent, and tell it not to spawn extra agents. The Grok subagent setting (and switching the parent to Grok) don’t reliably stop Opus 5 High children.

This is something we’ve seen before and we’ve let the team know. I’ll post here when there’s an update. Same class of report: Subagents using wrong model.

Ok this is what I gathered till now, thanks for confirming, hope we get a solution soon.
