I truly appreciate the value Cursor brings, it’s an amazing tool. That said, the new pricing feels quite high for many of us, especially independent developers or those living in countries with lower purchasing power. It would mean a lot if the team could explore region-based pricing or more affordable plans, so that a wider community of developers can continue to benefit from it.
it is $16/mo. That is already competitive.
The price is wild at this point. I am forced to find alternatives because im eating through a ultra plan in a matter of days and running up significant api costs after. I am not trying to spend 6 to 700 a month for some computing time. Only a few models actually work and the reason im here is because dumbass auto just decided to include a –option that deletes the DB volumes when restarting…
81 tables and indexing and the existing entries etc. gone, tg i have a backup but wtf! the only useable model is the top Claude models everything else fails miserably for the most part, gpt5 is pretty good.. the point is that you can’t rent us a Lambo for the month and then swap it out at midnight in our driveways for a yaris… and be like what? the system obviously uses extra tokens and does things that result in additional usage and it has to be by design. Finishing a project is almost impossible because it wants to drag everything on for ever and makes plenty of errors. then you have bills for $100’s extra every ■■■■ day popping up and stopping production, where do we draw the line? not to mention i have hit up hi@cursor and no response for over 7 days, its ■■■■■■■■
Opus is inadequately expensive. Sonnet is just too expensive. Which brings you to “im eating through an ultra plan in a matter of days”.
Neural networks make mistakes because they can make mistakes, not because it’s intentional.
To be fair the mistakes can be for both reasons simultaneously. So does anyone know what the actual base cost is for the ai model provider? are they just raking in dough or are they,… honestly i don’t care anymore it’s so frustrating, let me pour a few thousand more into this experience like a fool…
Cursor claims to give tokens for 20% more expensive than the original provider of the model. For this, we are provided with a RAG system in the form of a Cursor IDE. I would like them to work more on stability and quality (Gemini 2.5 Pro and Grok 4 are broken from the start to this day), but overall I am satisfied.
And many more helpful features (that can be obtained via plugins sometimes). If you are not good at rules and prompting it’s definitely worth it to pay Cursor.
You’ll waste Ultra plan on Opus in a day ![]()
hi @Customkleinsllc how good are you at context management?
hi, openai JUST decided to make sure chatgpt plus subscription is USD20 EVERYWHERE, in contrast, in EVERY other services like google’s youtube, etc, the price differ and is lower in 3rd world countries.
i disagree on openai’s act, i disagree on Sam Altman. I dont think ppl like him.
what i think is,
if cursor buy a LOT of services from the main companies, they will get discount, is it?
this discount should be split in half.
half return back to us users,
half become cursor’s profit.
now:
cursor eat the discount, and charge US 20% more.
f…..
- We do not know the discount amount
- Cursor provides a random number of additional free tokens
- Cursor needs money to develop IDE and support its own servers
Why are you using the API in Gemini when they have a generous free tier?
Or Cursor can try to keep as much of their earnings as possible while staying competitive. Because that is what any of us would do. It’s a business. Do you ever ask for a pay decrease?
Maybe you won’t believe what I say.
After I enter the CLI interface, I remember there are 3 options for me to login: 1) Google Acount; 2) Gemini API Key 3) Vertex AI. I just have API at hand so I input the API key.
I swear I touch no configuration and use it ususally I do in the cursor. Then the next day I check my bill in the GCP, I found it cost me $17
I don’t know whether I trigger bug or something. However, it’s not bad totally, at least it let me know how much it cost usually.
Pro+ doesnt come with a discount if buy yearly plan?
I don’t believe you can even buy a year of Pro+ or Ultra. They are monthly only.
Could you please explain more ?
@DemonVN
After you sign a service contract with Cursor, whether the contract is fulfilled or not is entirely up to them. If you decide you no longer want to honor the agreement, they’ll require you to keep using the service for the duration of the contracted period. But if they feel they’re at a disadvantage and don’t want to follow the original terms, you have no choice but to accept it.
This is not an equal relationship.
Can you please suggest other options? Everything else feels costly too. Claude code, Gemini 2.5. i’m too worried of pay-as-you-go pricing
