Cursor Profile link to Github

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

I want the profile to be tagged to the github profile. So if I am working on multiple projects, it becomes simple to switch profile and that way even the github profile also changes. This helps ensure my PRs are filed using the id that has correct permission on github.
this becomes critical especially when we are working on multiple repos and every repo has permission to a different github id.
This feature will help a lot of freelancers like me.

Hey, thanks for the feature request. The request is clear: link a Cursor profile to a specific GitHub account, so switching profiles also switches identity for commits and PRs.

Right now, that doesn’t work. Profiles don’t store GitHub identity. When the agent creates a PR, it uses gh pr create, so it uses whichever user gh or git is authenticated as on that machine. This is the same request discussed here: Feature Request: Add the ability to switch between multiple GitHub accounts (work/personal) within Cursor IDE without logging out and back in. I’d recommend adding a vote there and sharing your freelance and multi-repo use case, since that helps the request get more traction. I’ll merge your thread into that one so votes stay in one place.

Until this feature exists, there’s a machine-level workaround:

  • For PRs: use gh auth switch or set GH_TOKEN per directory before working in the repo.
  • For commits and push: set per-repo git config user.email, plus includeIf "gitdir:" in ~/.gitconfig and SSH host aliases, so each repo automatically picks the right identity.

It isn’t tied to Cursor profiles, but it does solve the problem of PRs being created under the wrong account until native support is added. Let me know if you’d like help setting up includeIf.
