I have a file .cursor/rules/personality.md which basically I want in context of ever chat or composer window I start - I do not want to have to reference it (similar to how base .cursorrules or app settings rules for ai would work.)
My Description is: (Trigger Word:
Data!) Use in Every Composer and Chat thread ALWAYS!!!
I have tried many combinations - without the trigger word it almost never gets picked up first in a new chat or composer regardless of model.
If I start the chat with Data! - only claude 3.5 sonnet detects and uses the rule file. o3-mini, gemini-pro do not pick it up at all. I would have to @ include the file.
This also seems to be the case with other rule files that are pretty explicit both with file patterns and other descriptions that should drive them being used in different scenarios.
It still seems that overall if using different models - the only reliable solution is a base project .cursorrules file or manually include rules as needed which is pretty annoying.
Hopefully other agent capable models, or models for normal composer and chat, can also start working with cursor rules detection better.
