Hi, I haven’t subscribed to Cursor for a few years. Has it improved a lot since then? Do tokens last longer when using Auto mode? What happens if I select Claude or GPT manually — do tokens run out much faster?
How does the token reset work now? Does it reset daily, or do I have to wait until next month?
Is it worth subscribing now? I’m worried about paying and running out of tokens too quickly, then having to wait a month to use them again.
I complained about this about a year ago, so I’d like to know if anything has changed since then.
Hey, thanks for the question. Pricing has changed since your last subscription, so I’ll break it down.
How usage is counted. There are no daily request counters now. Each plan has a monthly included usage pool, measured in the real cost of the models. You spend from that pool as you use the product.
How the reset works. The reset is monthly, and it’s tied to your billing cycle date, the day you started the subscription. It’s not daily, and there are no partial top-ups inside the cycle. When the included pool runs out, those models get paused until the next cycle unless you turn on on-demand.
About “I’ll pay and it’ll burn fast”. On-demand pay-as-you-go is opt-in. Until you enable it, your bill stays fixed, and you can’t go over the plan price. So that risk is limited.
Auto vs manual model selection. Yes, there’s a difference. Auto, Composer, and Grok 4.5 pull from a much larger first-party pool, so they last noticeably longer. If you manually pin Claude or GPT, usage comes from a smaller third-party pool, and it runs out much faster. So for saving usage, Auto is definitely better.
You can always check your current usage in Dashboard > Usage.
