Custom subagents ignore their role instructions since v3.21

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Since the version v3.21 (and the latest v3.22 as well) all my custom subagents are ignoring their role instructions from the corresponding .cursor/agents/*.md files, like they don’t have it in their context anymore and therefore acting generically weird.

However it all gets fixed when I rollback to v3.20 — the instructions are respected again and subagents act as expected.

This is catastrophic since custom subagents scenario is my main and only use case for Cursor.

Steps to Reproduce

Create a custom named subagent in .cursor/agents/*.md and write some specific set of instructions for it.

Expected Behavior

It follows the instructions.

MacOS
