Does a Cursor Automation using the non-PR ‘Issue comment’ trigger, configured for ‘Anyone,’ accept comments posted by a GitHub Actions workflow using the built-in GITHUB_TOKEN, where the author is github-actions[bot]?
I found staff guidance that bots and GitHub Apps are intentionally filtered from PR comment triggers:
Does the same restriction apply to non-PR Issue comment triggers, even when ‘Anyone’ is selected and the comment matches the configured regex?
If so, what is the supported way for an unattended cloud process to trigger a Cursor Automation without posting as a human through a personal access token?
Hey @Tobias04, yes: the same rule applies to the non-PR Issue comment trigger. Comments from GitHub bots and Apps (including github-actions[bot] using the default GITHUB_TOKEN) are filtered out before the trigger settings are checked, so “Anyone” and your regex never get evaluated for them. That’s intended, not something you’ve misconfigured.
For an unattended trigger, use a Webhook trigger instead of a comment:
Add a Webhook trigger to your automation (keep the Issue comment trigger for humans).
Save it. Cursor generates a private webhook URL and an API key.
Store the key as a GitHub repo secret (e.g. CURSOR_AUTOMATION_KEY).
In your Action, swap the “post a comment” step for a POST to that URL with Authorization: Bearer <key> and a JSON body. A context string in the body is added to the agent’s prompt, so put the issue number, URL, and your instructions there.
