I decided to install Matt Pocock’s skills and he provides instructions for Claude Code and for Cursor, since I use both I installed them both ways.
Then to my surprise when I try to access one of the skills in Cursor it shows me duplicate copies of every skill! Turns out Cursor also scans Claude and Codex folders for skills, so its seeing both the Claude Code plugin install and the Cursor skills.sh install. However the Claude Code skill install is the only one that actually shows you the author/origin of the skill, while Cursor claims its skills.sh copy is just another user skill.
This kinda sucks. I want to install skills in one place and have them be accessible to all my AI tools, and then in those tools I want the skills to indicate who made them to differentiate them from my own skills I’ve made.
Am I doing something wrong? What is the right approach here? Can Cursor show me the author of skills or differentiate mine from 3rd party?
Hey, thanks for the report. You’re not doing anything wrong, and the good news is you don’t need to install it twice.
Cursor detects skills installed in Claude Code and Codex folders, so one install is enough and it’ll show up in both tools. The duplicates you’re seeing are two separate installs of the same set, the Claude Code plugin and skills.sh in ~/.cursor/skills. Remove one of them and the duplicates will go away.
If you want to keep skills in Cursor fully separate from other tools, you can turn off third-party config detection: Settings → Rules, Skills and Subagents → toggle Include Third-Party Plugins, Skills, and Other Configs.
About the author and source, right now only the Claude Code plugin includes author metadata. The skills.sh install adds the skill as a normal user skill without author info, so Cursor shows it as yours. Being able to tell third-party skills from your own by author is a good idea, I’ll pass it to the team as feedback. If there’s an update, I’ll reply here.
