Cursor IDE — Bring Your Own Key / Override OpenAI Base URL (Enterprise)

Describe the request

I’m on Cursor Enterprise (Trilogy Cursor; same email as my Cursor account). I use Cursor alongside Claude and OpenAI. Separately, I want to route as much local Chat/Agent inference as possible through our TrueFoundry AI Gateway (Maat PAT + Override OpenAI Base URL to the company cursor/v1 gateway path) to reduce Cursor-billed usage, while still keeping Cursor’s own models when I choose them.

What works: a custom model whose ID is not in Cursor’s catalog hits the gateway. I verified this with matching usage on TrueFoundry and the Cursor Enterprise token-rate line (0.25 USD per million tokens), not full model cost.

What breaks: when Cursor adds a catalog/built-in model with the same or similar ID (e.g. Kimi K3 / kimi-*), Override OpenAI Base URL does not apply. Staff confirmed built-in Kimi is Cursor-hosted and the override is ignored. I then get 404 / “resource not found” and traffic never reaches the gateway. A custom model that worked for weeks (e.g. kimi-k3-fast via gateway) can stop working after a catalog change with no BYOK changelog. Claude via the same gateway is also blocked because there is no Override Anthropic Base URL.

Ask:

  1. Route by selection: custom/gateway models → Override Base URL + key; Cursor catalog models → Cursor when I pick them.
  2. Add Override Anthropic Base URL so Claude can optionally go through a company gateway the same way OpenAI-compatible models can.
  3. Stop reserving provider model IDs so BYOK cannot use the exact ID the gateway expects when a similarly named built-in exists.
  4. Treat Enterprise gateway BYOK as a first-class path (stable custom models, clear docs), not something that silently breaks when new built-ins ship.

Related threads (search by title; new-user link limit):

  • BYOK + custom base URL: built-in Kimi K3 and K2.7-Code return 404, but K2.7-Code-Highspeed works
  • Request to override Anthropic Base URL
  • Built-in Kimi K3 + Moonshot BYOK fails… name is reserved
  • When will Cursor fully support BYOK?

Happy to share Request IDs and a redacted config. Goal is optional cost control via gateway, not replacing Cursor / Claude / OpenAI.
