Hey Cursor team,
I’d love to suggest a Profiles feature to help manage different types of projects more easily. The idea is to allow users to create multiple named profiles, each with its own session context, file locations, and maybe even a default startup directory.
Why this matters:
Right now, whenever I switch between different kinds of work (e.g. web dev, bot dev, screenplay writing), I have to manually open folders, adjust settings, and reorient my workflow. It’d be amazing if I could just click on a profile and everything is ready to go.
How it might work:
- Users can create/edit/delete profiles
- Each profile can have:
- A custom name (e.g. “WebDev”, “Discord Bots”, “Fountain Writing”)
- A default project folder or working directory (e.g.
E:/web
,D:/bots/discord
) - Optionally, saved settings for extensions, themes, or tools used in that profile
Example use case:
- Profile 1 – WebDev → Loads projects from
E:/web
- Profile 2 – Discord Bots → Loads files from
D:/projects/bots
- Profile 3 – Fountain → Opens up my screenplay drafts at
C:/writing/fountain
This could massively improve the workflow for anyone juggling multiple disciplines or projects. Think of it like VS Code’s “Workspaces”, but integrated into Cursor as a profile switcher you can pick at startup.
Thanks for considering this! Would love to hear thoughts from others too—maybe there’s a workaround I missed?
