Fix the workspace management - its a nightmare

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Somewhere else…

Describe the Bug

Unify the workspace management - if you store anything such as plans, canvas’s, chats, in a workspace they need to be consolidated - its a nightmare - i have 4 workspaces across cloud, new cursor, old cursor, random new workspaces you create willy nilly across god knows what ever new feature you are trying to implement - its a nigntmare

Steps to Reproduce

open a cloud session

Expected Behavior

the product has my plans, canvass’s chats etc - ideally a way to consolidate all the workspaces and chats you have forced me to generate over the last 2 years of development/

Operating System

OSX

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hi @lucian_horrobin ,

Workspace data (chats, canvases, plans) is currently scoped per workspace by design. Consolidating data across cloud sessions, local workspaces, and different Cursor versions is one of the more common requests we see.

A couple of existing threads where others have described the same need:

Our team is actively working on this area. Please track the above threads for updates on developments.

@mohitjain Thanks for acknowledging that the team is working towards this, especially since my original thread didn’t get any response.

Unfortunately this is a major major drawback of using cursor right now. I’m essentially locked in to the UI and need to be present at my desk to use it. If I decide to start a chat in cli(via ssh) while I’m away, I can’t continue it after coming back on IDE. Or vice versa, if I was having a chat on my IDE and want to continue it on my phone via CLI I’m out of luck.

Your chats shouldn’t be locked to a UI.

IMO codex, opencode have handled it perfectly. And now with codex mobile out, I feel cursor has a lot of catching up to do.

@ujjwal - Sorry your Unified chat store across IDE, CLI, ACP mode thread hadn’t gotten a staff reply yet.

If you need to continue work away from your desk mid-task, Cloud Agents are the supported path right now: prepend & to a message in the CLI to hand off to a cloud agent, then continue at cursor.com/agents on web or mobile. That helps with mobility, but it doesn’t replace unified history across IDE, CLI, and ACP.

We’re tracking demand on threads like yours and Cursor CLI and Editor should sync. If others want the same IDE ↔ CLI ↔ mobile continuity, chiming in there helps.
