“Google Chrome” option removed from Browser Automation dropdown in 2.4.37 — only “Browser Tab” and “Off” remain

What changed

In Cursor 2.0, the Browser Automation dropdown (in Composer/Agent) had three options: Off, Browser Tab, and Google Chrome. I used Google Chrome so the Agent controlled a separate Chrome window (better for multi-monitor and keeping the browser separate from the editor).

In Cursor 2.4.37, the dropdown only shows Off and Browser Tab. The Google Chrome option is gone.

What I’m asking

  1. Was the Google Chrome option intentionally removed? If yes, is there a plan to bring it back or an alternative way to use an external Chrome window with the Agent?

  2. If it was removed by mistake, can it be restored in a future release?

  3. Is there any documented workaround (e.g. setting, flag, or MCP) to get back “separate Chrome window” behavior in 2.4.x?

Why it matters

The forum post “What’s the difference between Browser Tab and Google Chrome…” explained that Google Chrome opened a separate window (same Agent control, different layout). I’d like to keep that workflow.

Environment

  • Cursor version: 2.4.37

  • OS: [e.g. macOS]

Thanks for any info or guidance.

hi @sharoon-7171 and welcome to Cursor Forum.

The Google Chrome option was removed due to issues and the Browser Tab still works.

Alternative would be the playwright/mcp which you can install and agent can that way access your chrome.
