Right now a claimed bot email address is permanent, and each account gets only one. Bots get renamed all the time as people settle on how they use them, and once that happens the address no longer matches the bot.
Please add a way to rename or swap a claimed address. Even a short grace period after claiming, or a one-time change, would cover most cases.
Use [email protected] instead of [email protected] in forms. This way, you can have an infinite number of botnames with one email account without any confusion.
Thanks! Quick clarification: in [email protected], is ‘username’ the name in front of the bot’s claimed address, or the account or forum username? And have you confirmed that mail.grokbot.com actually delivers plus-addressed mail to the base inbox?
However the latter two AI email services make it trivial to generate new email addresses per bot and per job – unlike Grok Bot mail. Therefore the plus scheme is less important with them.
Our account claimed [email protected]. We’d like the handle to be [email protected] instead. Is there a way to rename a claimed inbox, or to release it and claim a new handle? If neither exists today, please treat this as a feature request to rename inbox handles. Thanks! — Tech Support
@Colin — circling back on renaming a claimed `mail.grokbot.com` address. Plus-addressing doesn’t work (confirmed in-thread), and another user just asked for the same rename/release path. Any chance of a one-time change or release-and-reclaim, or is that not on the roadmap? Happy to take whatever input you can share.
Bot email has turned out to be really useful for routing receipts and notices, which is exactly why the base name matters.
Why this matters:
The help page says each account gets one address that can’t be renamed or deleted, so a name picked in a hurry is permanent.
Many of us claimed quickly when the feature launched, before realizing it was for good.
The address belongs to the whole account and is shared by all Bots. Bots get renamed and repurposed, but the address can’t follow.
Plus aliases (name+receipts@…) help with organizing mail, but they don’t replace a base name you’re happy giving to banks, stores and contacts.
Any of these would solve it:
A one-time rename per account.
Retire the old address (still never reissued to anyone else) and claim a new one, with the old address forwarding to the new one for a grace period, e.g. 90 days.
A short grace window after claiming, during which a change is allowed.
Since retired names are never reissued, none of these would let anyone take over someone else’s address. Thanks for considering it!
+1 → Please add the ability to change a grok-bot e-mail adress. I wasn’t aware that I can’t have multiple mails or change it afterwards and now I have a mail too specific for a project / an agent and I would like to change it…
I am also experiencing the same dilemma. The introduction of this feature led me to believe EVERY BOT can have ITS OWN mailbox. Hence I chose a wrong name that is too specific. Please let us re-assign our email name.
Same here. From the tweets I read, it seemed that we’d have an address per bot. Now I have an immutable email address that’s overly specific. Back to agentmail.
This is a non-feature if not explained sufficiently during setup. Love the bots and functionality, but account handling & clarity on the admin side is kinda lacking.
