Grok Bot computer: all outbound non-HTTPS traffic blocked since Oct 1 (MySQL, SSH, IMAP/SMTP, FTP time out)

Describe the Bug

Titel: Grok Bot computer: all outbound non-HTTPS traffic blocked since Oct 1 (MySQL, SSH, IMAP/SMTP, FTP time out)

Since October 1, 2026, around 11:37 CEST, right after a computer restart, my Grok Bot computer can only reach the internet over HTTPS. Every other outbound TCP connection times out. Nothing changed on my side.

What I see from the computer’s terminal:

  • HTTPS on 443: works
  • Plain HTTP on 80: timeout
  • MySQL on 3306 (my own server): timeout
  • IMAP 993 and SMTP 465: timeout
  • FTP 21 and FTPS 990: timeout
  • SSH on 22, github[.]com included: timeout
  • Raw TCP on 443 that isn’t TLS/HTTPS (ssh[.]github[.]com:443): no answer either

So it looks like all egress now goes through a proxy that only passes HTTPS.

Already tried:

  • The computer is on the latest version.
  • “Route traffic through this computer” was on and showed 0 routed. Turning it off made no difference. As far as I understand from another thread here, it only covers the browser anyway.

Why I think this is a bug: According to the Grok Bot security docs, network restrictions are Enterprise-only, and computers without a policy default to allow-all, including raw connections to IPs and ports. I’m on Ultra and have never set a policy.

Impact: My bots can’t reach my database, mail server, FTP or SSH anymore. I’ve worked around part of it with HTTPS endpoints on my server, but that’s not a real fix.

Questions to the team:

  1. Was this an intentional change? If so, is it documented anywhere?
  2. How do I get normal outbound access back?

Thanks!

Steps to Reproduce

  1. On my Grok Bot computer (Ultra plan, no network policy ever set), open a terminal via the bot.
  2. Test HTTPS: curl -s -o /dev/null -w “%{http_code}” https:_example[.]org → 200 (works)
  3. Test plain HTTP: curl -m 8 http://example[.]org → timeout
  4. Test raw TCP to other ports, e.g.:
    timeout 6 bash -c ‘echo > /dev/tcp//3306’ → timeout (MySQL)
    same for 993 (IMAP), 465 (SMTP), 21/990 (FTP/FTPS), 22 (SSH, also github[.]com:22) → all time out
  5. Test non-TLS TCP on 443: connect to ssh.github[.]com:443 → no SSH banner, timeout
  6. Toggle “Route traffic through this computer” on/off → no change (showed “0 routed”)

Started Oct 1, 2026 ~11:37 CEST right after a computer restart. Before that, all of these ports worked.

Expected Behavior

Outbound TCP to any host and port should work, as it did before Oct 1. Per the Grok Bot security docs, network restrictions are Enterprise-only and computers without a network policy default to allow-all, including raw connections to IPs and ports. I’m on Ultra and never set a policy, so MySQL (3306), IMAP/SMTP (993/465), FTP/FTPS (21/990), SSH (22) and plain HTTP (80) should all be reachable from the computer’s terminal, not just HTTPS on 443.

Version Information

Grok Bot desktop app 0.63.0 (stable channel, up to date), macOS. Affected: the Grok Bot cloud computer (Linux).

Additional Information

- Plan: Cursor Ultra (personal), no Enterprise network policy ever configured.
- The computer's environment shows an egress proxy (SAND_HTTP_PROXY_NAME=fastly-prod-xai-1, SAND_EGRESS_TUNNEL_ENABLED=1). Since the restart, all outbound traffic seems to go through it, and it only passes TLS/HTTPS.
- "Route traffic through this computer" showed "0 routed" while on. Per another forum thread it only covers the browser, not terminal commands, so it can't be used as a workaround.
- Computer update: already on the latest version. I didn't reset, since files/state matter.
- Impact: my bots lost access to my own MySQL server, mail (IMAP/SMTP), FTP uploads and SSH. I've built temporary HTTPS endpoints on my server as a stopgap, but that's not a real solution.
- Questions: Was this an intentional platform change? If yes, where is it documented, and how can a non-Enterprise user allow specific hosts/ports?
- Screenshot of the port tests attached.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Same here. This is crazy.

Confirming another affected account, same fingerprint. My Grok Bot computer restarted Oct 1 around 5:41 AM MT and since then all non-443 outbound times out — IMAP 993, SMTP 587 and 465, even a raw IP on 993. Plain HTTPS on 443 still works fine.

Environment here shows the egress tunnel setup too: SAND_EGRESS_TUNNEL_ENABLED=1 with a local proxy at 127.0.0.1:8791. No network policy was ever configured on this account.

This directly contradicts the current docs (Grok Bot security | Cursor Docs), which say port restrictions are Enterprise-only and that computers with no policy default to allow-all, including raw IP/port connections. “Route traffic through this computer” doesn’t cover terminal/agent traffic, so it isn’t a workaround for IMAP/SMTP.

Would really appreciate an official word on whether this web-only egress is intentional and whether it’s here to stay.

same too

We all know the world only works on HTTPS right?

Hey @shoplytics.de, thanks for the report and the port tests, and thanks @Aadam, @NavyWings and @Hopeless for confirming.

This isn’t a restriction on your plan or account, and it isn’t intended. Since a recent change, some Grok Bot computers can only make outbound HTTPS connections on port 443, so database, mail, SSH, FTP and plain HTTP connections time out. The team is aware and is tracking it.

There’s no reliable workaround on the computer itself yet. “Route traffic through this computer” won’t help, because it only covers the browser. HTTPS-based endpoints (like the ones you set up) and cloning git repos over HTTPS instead of SSH do still work. There’s no need to reset your computer.

We’ll share updates here!

Adding another affected account. Since Oct 1, 2026 (sometime after 7:21 AM ET), my Grok Bot computer can only connect out over HTTPS on 443. IMAP (imap.aol.com:993 and :143), SMTP (smtp.verizon.net:465, smtp.aol.com:587), imap.gmail.com:993, and a test on port 8080 all time out. DNS resolves every host to 198.18.0.1. Running “Update Grok Bot’s Computer” on Oct 1 didn’t change anything, and box-doctor passes all its checks. My email bot can’t use IMAP/SMTP, so for now I’m running everything through AOL webmail in the browser, which uses noticeably more of my usage allowance. I’m on SuperGrok, with no network policy ever set. Thanks, Colin, for confirming it’s being tracked. Looking forward to an update.

Same. Y’all are smarter than I am, but my symptom is that my Grok Bot can’t SSH to AWS and upload anymore. Instead, it has found a workaround by just deploying from my workstation where the Grok Bot agent app is installed.

I’m trying to train my bot to be personally annoyed by being hamstrung, but it just stays serene.

Same here. My Bot can’t access iCloud IMAP anymore since October 1 2026. Any fix in sight?
