Grok Bot’s Google Drive connector can search, read, download, create, copy, share, trash, rename, and move. update_file is title and parent only. There is no tool to insert text into an existing Google Doc, apply heading or list styles, or write cells on an existing Sheet.
Standing jobs that must edit one living Doc or Sheet in place have to use the Agent Computer browser and a Google tab session. That session is not the Drive MCP OAuth token. The browser Google session dies (Google accounts.google.com/restart on a short timer). MCP reads keep working. Writes wait on a human password.
create_file can mint a new Doc from text. That is the wrong shape. The file ID has to stay the same.
Ask: Docs/Sheets write tools on the existing Drive connector (or a Docs/Sheets connector) that edit an existing file by ID: insert/replace body text, apply heading and list styles, write Sheet cells. Same file. No copy. Not a new Doc each run.
Not a duplicate of 168575 (View-only tokens showing write tools). This is the inverse: a connected Drive account that cannot edit Doc/Sheet body at all.
In-place editing lives in the dedicated Google Docs and Google Sheets connectors rather than the Drive connector. Drive handles file-level operations, while the Docs connector edits document content and the Sheets connector writes cell values, both against the existing file ID (no copy, no new Doc each run).
You can add both from the connector marketplace using the same Google account you connected for Drive!
Thanks Colin. I checked the Grok Bot plugin marketplace on the same Google account that already has Drive, Gmail, and Calendar connected.
There is no Google Docs connector and no Google Sheets connector in that catalog. Search for “Google Docs” and “Google Sheets” returns Drive and Calendar (plus unrelated hits like Docs Canvas / Smartsheet). Drive itself is still file-level: search, read, create, share — no Doc body or Sheet cell write.
So the in-place editing path you described is not available to Grok Bot yet. Could those two connectors be added to the Grok Bot marketplace, or are they Cursor IDE-only?
Apologies for the confusion. The Google Docs and Google Sheets connectors were briefly available in early August, but they were pulled while we finalize a few remaining details. We hope to bring them back soon.
Hi Colin, thanks for your updates. Would kindly be able to estimate when these connectors are coming back? At the moment I’m looking at building my own connector as a work around, but would rather not waste the time/effort if these are coming back soon.
