Grok Bot: official X plugin OAuth fails with “Something went wrong / failed to give the app access”

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor for iOS

Describe the Bug

Product area: Grok Bot (iOS) — official X marketplace plugin / MCP connector (plugin id 49086599). The dropdown has no Grok Bot option, so I picked Cursor for iOS.

I cannot connect the official X plugin in Grok Bot. Starting auth opens x.com in the in-app browser and immediately shows X’s error page (Hebrew UI):

משהו השתבש
לא הצלחת לתת גישה ליישום. חזור אחורה ונסה שוב להיכנס.

English: “Something went wrong. You failed to give access to the application. Go back and try to log in again.”

There is a Back button and a support-center link about third-party app access. Auth never completes.

Connector status after failure: user-X is error / needsAuth, tools=0, detail either “Failed to load MCP server” or “Authentication required”. Plugin id 49086599.

This is a different failure from the Vercel Grok Bot bug (Vercel says “redirect URL is invalid”). Here X itself rejects the authorize/grant step.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. In Grok Bot iOS, install / open the official X plugin (49086599)
  2. Tap Connect / authenticate
  3. Grok Bot opens x.com for OAuth
  4. X shows “Something went wrong / You failed to give access to the application”
  5. Auth never completes. Connector stays error/needsAuth, tools=0

Expected Behavior

OAuth should complete and the X connector should become connected with tools available in Grok Bot, same as other official plugins (Slack, GitHub, Figma, etc.).

Version Information

  • OS: Other → iPhone, latest iOS. Reproduced from Grok Bot iOS.
  • Client: Grok Bot iOS (App Store, Grok Bot 1.0)
  • Plugin: official X marketplace plugin, id 49086599
  • Connector: user-X, tools=0, needsAuth / Failed to load MCP server
  • Other official plugins in the same Grok Bot session connect fine: Slack, GitHub, Figma, Sentry, Higgsfield, Context7, Supabase, Resend
  • Related but different: Vercel plugin 649 fails with a different OAuth error (invalid redirect URL): Grok Bot: Vercel plugin (649) OAuth fails with “App configuration error – redirect URL is invalid”

Additional Information

Screenshot attached (taken in Grok Bot iOS on x.com during the connect flow). Status bar shows “Grok Bot >”.

Please fix the X OAuth client / redirect used by Grok Bot for this official plugin so X accepts the grant. Happy to retry as soon as it is updated.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hi @Netanel!

Could you give it another try after updating the Grok Bot iOS App (to 1.2)? We’re seeing connections working now!

Hey Colin — I updated Grok Bot iOS to 1.2 and reinstalled the official X plugin. It still shows Error after the reinstall (connector user-X, Failed to load MCP server, tools=0). Screenshot attached.

Hey @Netanel

It looks like your screenshot got warped. Can you try again (I just tried on a fresh install and it worked) and share a fresh screenshot?

Hey Colin — here’s a fresh screenshot (the last one got warped on upload). After Grok Bot iOS 1.2 and reinstalling the official X plugin, it still shows Error: Failed to load MCP server on the default account. Connector stays Error / tools=0.

Same here, and it isn’t just Grok Bot iOS.

Official X plugin (49086599) and official Vercel plugin (649) both fail OAuth for me in Grok Bot and in Cursor. After connect, both stay needsAuth / Error, tools=0. X is authentication_required.

On Vercel (Cursor Cloud and Grok Bots), authenticating for Cloud opens vercel.com already signed in as my account, then a dashboard 404 (“Not Found” with a “Sign in as a different user” button) instead of an authorize screen. I’m not switching accounts — that’s just the 404 page. Related: Grok Bot: Vercel plugin (649) OAuth fails with “App configuration error – redirect URL is invalid”

Still broken after Grok Bot 1.2. Happy to retry whenever the OAuth client / redirect is updated.
