I’ve been experiencing severe performance issues with Cursor after recent updates. This has completely disrupted my workflow — I can no longer reliably finish tasks because the agent keeps hanging or the whole app crashes mid-session.
Symptoms
Cursor frequently consumes excessive memory and eventually crashes with OOM (out of memory) errors.
Agent/Composer regularly gets stuck on “Taking longer than expected…” for 20–30+ minutes and produces no changes at all.
The app becomes very slow and unresponsive during normal use, especially with longer Agent sessions.
I keep losing progress because the session dies while I’m in the middle of something.
I only have 16GB of RAM, but it was never this bad before. The problems became much worse after the launch of Grok 4.6. Before that I could work for extended periods without constant crashes or long hangs.
What I’ve already tried
Fully quitting Cursor (Cmd+Q / Task Manager)
Reloading the window
Starting new chats
Deleting old chats + running GC Agent KV Blobs
Reducing open files / using .cursorignore
These help temporarily, but the problems return fairly quickly and make it hard to get real work done.
