How to add a custom model like DeepSeek-V3 (which is OpenAI compatible)

  1. deepseek-coder (v2.5) !== deepseek-chat (v3)
  2. Composer don’t works

Does it mean there is no way to use deepseek v3 using composer?
So this leave us with chatgpt and claude to use composer only ?
I tried cline with deepseek v3 but I found that it’s hard to get something working although so many people saying it’s awesome and beats cursor.

Please @anon-9002714 team add this model, it’s on par with claude 3.5

I got it figured out! It really was that important  All you need to do is set the base url to https://api.deepseek.com/ I have been using it for weeks with cursor free version and then went up to pro and it quit working. This fixes it.

Hey, we’ve started testing this model in Cursor. Check your settings and make sure it’s checked. If the model hasn’t appeared yet, try adding it manually.

Is Deepseek supposed to work with Composer? I get the “Model not supported” message is it just chat only?

This model only works in the normal mode of the Composer.

What are the cost calculation rules of DeepSeek? as Premium models? or has some limit every day? @deanrie

After adding DeepSeek API key and proper base URL (like https://api.deepseek.com/v1 or https://api.deepseek.com/beta or https://api.deepseek.com/) I can see that the API key is not saved, because verify in Cursor fails (but works if CURL code is executed manually in terminal). When I re-open settings, I can see that old OpenAI key is in Verify, so failed verify does not save DeepSeek API key :frowning:

Tested with different models like deepseek-coder, deepseek-chat etc.

Do you have some tip how to save API key despite verify not finishing?

Not useful

There is deepseek-coder from Cursor, without any API keys

Currently, it’s considered as non-premium, and we’ve added it as an experiment. This means it might be removed at any time, but for now, you can use it.

@deanrie What API provider is this deepseek-v3 using? Is cursor using fireworks?

Inquiring prompts want to know; what power do Anthropic or OAI have over any model decisions cursor wants to support?

Do folks from either sit on Cursors board/advisory such that they may hold political, ideological or financial sway on any model support now or in future?

HonestQ.

Thanks

Yes, the provider is Fireworks.

Thank you for replying! I appreciate how Cursor answers questions and keeps the community up-to-date; that’s a breath of fresh air compared to other companies in AI. Keep up the good work!
