I have Gemini 2.5 Pro and Perplexity Ai Pro accounts - can I use them in Cursor?

Now with Auto becoming a non free option, is there a way to use my existing Gemini 2.5 Pro and Preplexity AI pro accounts via Cursor? What would be the cost for that (as I already have existing pro accounts with both of them)?

hi @Yogevs if you have API key from Gemini you can apply it to Cursor. However note that 3rd party apps or subscriptions like Gemini AI Pro or Perplexity Pro can not be applied directly to Cursor.

Only API keys with compatible API URLs may be set in Cursor Settings to use external AI models as we do not have access to 3rd party apps.

To add on to my colleague, you also need a Cursor subscription for them to work.

if i bring my own gpt-5-chat key cant it work on free versions?

Hey, no, you need a Pro subscription to use your API keys.

Thanks noted!

I was looking into this as well, especially since perplexity.ai has a promo making it free for a year

@condor what do you mean by 3rd party apps? I have the regular pro subscription for both Gemini 2.5 and Preplexity. I have no problem continuing paying for the Pro account in Cursor and the go to the APIs of my pro accounts when my Cursor credits are depleted. Mostly interested in this now since Auto is no longer free for Pro account.

They are saying that you need the applicable API keys, not just a subscription to perplexity. Perplexity has a separate fee (like most 3rd party apps) for API keys, and I am not sure if perplexity’s API would even work. Not all APIs work with cursor: Cursor – API Keys

Well said @MidnightOak!

Essentially Cursor is the app made by us. You can use API keys of other AI providers in Cursor.

Perplexity Pro is a subscription for the Perplexity app/website. As Cursor does not have access to Perplexity app you can not use your Perplexity subscription for Cursor.

However If you use Perplexity API you could use the Perplexity API key in Cursor. Same for Gemini, if you have access to the Gemini API and a Gemini API key you can use them in Cursor.

Note that not all models are compatible with Cursor as we did not optimize for them, but models like Gemini 2.5 Pro are already in Cursor so using an API key for that would work.
