@Mihai_Cracan Why would this be the solution when it would require the user to sign up for yet another subscription? By this logic, just go sign up for OpenRouter and plug whatever OAI or other models you want into Cursor which you can already do today. The entire point here is having the access to frontier models in one sole subscription.
@ok1 I already have created a codex bridge which I point Cursor to using custom OpenAI URL.
There are some issues though - I still need to choose GPT-5.6 in Cursor so Cursor will inject the OpenAI specific harness:
tools
system message
If you simply create a generic custom model, Cursor injects a more basic setup into it:
more basic system message
more rudimentary tools
Having “Sign in with ChatGPT” implemented natively by Cursor - I could get access to OpenAI models for which Cursor would specifically tune the system message and tools in accordance to their capabilities.
Also supposely from November if OpenAI won’t be available anymore in Cursor this means we will lose the way of using Cursor’s OpenAI specific tuned harness with custom models too.
I was using $200 Cursor subscription before, but roughly that gives you ~$500 in OpenAI/Claude API credits.
However OpenAI now $500 subscription gives you >$8000 in monthly API credits.
I could use Codex directly but for professional work I find that quite rudimentary in the way it helps me understand and control the changes.
I use Cursor VSCode based IDE specifically for Agent Review where you could review stuff individually on top of Git changes, and also for Ask mode - which is not present in Codex (there you only have the option to approve the actions - but it is not like Ask mode where the model is informed you just want to Chat in that turn).
Sign in with ChatGPT in Cursor would solve:
Cursor continuing to natively support OpenAI models into their harness (system message, tools, other details)
being able to pay even the $20 subscription for OpenAI which gives you more than $400 in monthly API credits
So indeed there are 2 subscriptions, but would be the best combo (given the situation) in using the Cursor harness with OpenAI models, natively supported.
If I’m not mistaken, I read that OpenAI would no longer be releasing its models to Cursor; indeed, I notice that the GPT-6 and Astra versions are missing. Will this be resolved, or will they no longer be available?
