Feature request for product/service
Cursor IDE
Describe the request
I would like to propose an enhancement to Cursor’s automatic context summarization feature by integrating a learning capture system. This integration would allow users to automatically extract and document key learnings during the summarization process, thereby preserving valuable insights and decisions made throughout the project.
Feature Details
Automatic Learning Extraction: During the context summarization process, Cursor would identify and extract key learnings, decisions, and insights from the conversation.
Structured Documentation: The extracted learnings would be organized into a structured format, such as a Markdown file, and saved within the project directory for easy access and reference.
Customization Options: Users could configure the types of learnings to capture, the format of the documentation, and the frequency of extraction to suit their workflow.
Benefits
Enhanced Knowledge Management: By automatically capturing key learnings, teams can build a comprehensive knowledge base that aids in onboarding, decision-making, and future project planning.
Improved Context Retention: Preserving insights from past conversations ensures that important information is not lost during context summarization, maintaining continuity throughout the project lifecycle.
Increased Productivity: Automating the learning capture process reduces the manual effort required to document insights, allowing teams to focus more on development tasks.
Use Case
A development team is working on a complex project using Cursor. As they progress, they have numerous discussions and make critical decisions regarding architecture, design patterns, and implementation strategies. With the proposed feature, each time Cursor performs a context summarization, it would also extract and document these key learnings into a LEARNINGS.md file within the project. This file serves as a living document that team members can refer to, ensuring that valuable insights are preserved and easily accessible.
