I want to share what happened when I switched, because I think others should know before they do the same.
I was on SuperGrok Heavy, which had separate weekly limits for Build and Bots. I run a work automation 24/7, and I built it so I can switch it between Build and Bots whenever I want. That’s how I balanced the two limits and got full use out of both. When Build ran out, I moved the job over to Bots, and I got through every week without paying anything extra.
Before switching, I asked Grok whether Ultra would work for me. It told me Ultra was the stronger, better-value plan and would give me the same usage, so I switched on Oct 15. Within a day it was obvious that Ultra’s single shared pool is only about the size of my old Build limit by itself. That’s roughly half of the total usage I had on Heavy. At my normal pace, I’ll hit the cap before the weekly reset.
I honestly feel like I was lied to and tricked into a plan that suits me worse, and there’s no way back. The docs now say the switch is permanent and Support can’t undo it, which I couldn’t have known when I made the decision based on what Grok told me.
To keep my job running 24/7, I now have to sign up for Anthropic’s $200/mo plan to cover the weekly usage I lost. Think about what that means:
- Anthropic wins, because they get $200/mo from me that they weren’t getting before.
- I lose, because I’m paying $100/mo more than I did on Heavy.
- xAI loses too, because they’re getting $100/mo less from me.
This makes no sense for anyone except Anthropic. I’d like xAI to either let Heavy users who were misled switch back, or offer an Ultra tier that matches what Heavy actually gave us.
