Invalid Model error when attempting to use "@web" tool with Anthropic API token

Describe the Bug

When attempting to use the “@web” shortcut in Cursor with an Anthropic API key set, it blocks chat submission and displays an “Invalid Model” error modal.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Set a valid Anthropic API key with funds in the Cursor settings
  • Select Agent mode in the Chat
  • Select a Claude 4 model (Sonnet or Opus)
  • Type something in the chat and include the “@web” shortcut in the message.
  • Try to submit the chat message.

Expected Behavior

I would expect the chat to use the web tool: Cursor – @Web

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. I confirm that this isn’t working. I’ll forward this to the team. As a workaround, you can add something like “Find on the internet” to your request, and it should trigger the search function.

Thanks! Another workaround I’ve used is to perform the web search through an MCP like Brave Search.
