Is there a secret to installing on Windows 10?

Unable to install on a Windows 10 machine. I’ve tried multiple times, different versions, confirmed the folder I am attempting to install into is writable, that I have enough space on the drive, etc.

I did make a short video showing the issue: [Support] Cursor, unable to install - TechSmith Screencast - TechSmith Screencast

Please add the following info to help us diagnose your issue:

:white_check_mark: Check the forum to ensure the issue hasn’t been reported already
Did that, no help

Fails to complete the installation. Message received: An error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory. MoveFile failed; code 5. Access is denied.

Not sure, but I’ve tried it on my Windows 10 Home (10.0.19044 Build 19044) machine multiple times.

:camera: Attach screenshots or recordings (e.g., .jpg, .png, .mp4).

:laptop: Tell us your operating system and your Cursor version (e.g., Windows, 0.x.x).
See above for Windows info. Have tried both Cursor x64 0.18.7 and Cursor x64 0.45.15. Both give me the same errors.

:prohibited: Tell us if the issue stops you from using Cursor.
100% can’t use Cursor. Can’t complete installation of Cursor.

Hey, this error is related to insufficient permissions. Have you tried installing Cursor on the C drive? Make sure there are no running Cursor processes, and try running the installer as an administrator. If you have an antivirus, try disabling it temporarily. If this doesn’t solve your problem, let me know, and I’ll try to find other solutions.

My original attempt was to install it on C: drive. Next two attempts the D: drive which contains more space. I do use Avast, so I will disable that and try again. More soon.

Running as admin is a good suggestion. That should overcome any permission related issue. If you’ve not done that before, go to your downloads folder, right click the installer, and choose Run As Administrator. I assume your PC isn’t set to whatever that Secure Mode thing is Windows has that prevents modification.

I was able to install it to the D: drive by stopping Avast first. Launched it, and immediately got this message:

I guess I am not destined to try it before I commit to buying it? I was under the impression I would get a (very) limited trial account so I could at least eval the tool.

Gotta say.. 3 hours of effort over the last two months and when it’s finally here, I can’t use it. A little underwhelming.

Hey, if you haven’t tried it yet, try registering again with a different email address.
