Instead of applying edits all at once it applies 1 line at a time over multiple tool calls

Claude 4 sonnet MAX and asked it to update an INSTRUCTIONS.md file

Expected Behavior

Use a single tool call to apply the changes

Hey, unfortunately, models can sometimes do things like this, and while Claude is usually more reliable against these kinds of issues, it’s definitely not immune.

It’s possible that starting a new chat would resolve this, as it may just be that Claude has got itself into a state of very short thinking and edits, or potentially even some kind of loop.

If you find this happening often, maybe consider adding a user rule to tell the model to batch it’s edits instead of this inefficient behaviour!
