It has been said, but I will repeat it, Agent mode is baaad, bring back composer

The agent mode is really baad, even with paid premium models:

  • Ignores the context provided and starts doing greps and limited code ingestions.
  • If you do not really prompt it to minimize edits will edit a lot of files and break other parts of the code.
  • Will start using alternative libraries/frameworks
  • Even switches to french in the middle of a generation, for no apparent reason.

You made Cursor a bad product by forcing us to Agent mode. It should be optional, not the only option. If it does not improve before my monthly subscription ends I will switch to Wsurf or go back to cpilot after 6 months of happy cursor usage.

Same issue here. I was happy with Composer, but Chat->Agent mode completely tanked my productivity. I cannot get rid of the Agent even in Edit mode. Should (can) I downgrade the Cursor application to a lower version?

Composer used to read the whole context (multiple files) fast and made bulk edits nicely. Where as the Agent moves slowly – reads each file and their sections one at a time, edits the same file multiple times, gets stuck in infinite loops trying to fix problems that it itself created!

Update: I downgraded to v0.45 and the old Composer is back – it works fine.

I don’t think it’s an LLM/model issue because I compared v0.46 vs 0.45 on claude-3.7-sonnet. The older version (Composer) is much better. The latest version (Agent) makes a lot of mistakes, deletes useful code, etc. I’m guessing because it doesn’t take bulk context compared to Composer?
