Rollback to Cursor 2.0.38 | Cursor Historical Version Download has helped me as a workaround.
Hey guys, work around here: open terminal and activate something like conda env or venv, if you installed the jupyter kernels in pip/conda/uv, you could type command jupyter notebook, and paste the link and token shows in the terminal print infos, and back to cursor→ select kernel → existing jupyter kernel. It could work.
You are Right!

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Facing same problem. Did anyone find any workaround?
Same here!
Same issue. This new update broke a lot of things and I´ll switch to VSCode to be able to work properly, cursor is unusable atm.
Only fix I´ve found is rolling back the versions, but I get spammed all the time to update to a new version and that´s also annoying
Same issue, only started after I installed this past week’s update (believe version 2.0.50 or 2.0.60). First tells me to install ipykernel to run notebook on kernel, after which it doesn’t react to any selection of old or new enviornments when asked to pick one at runtime.
Workaround: Kernel selection not working in Cursor + Jupyter
I was hitting the same issue where kernel selection in Cursor didn’t work. What fixed it for me was starting the Jupyter server manually and then attaching Cursor to that running server instead of letting Cursor start it.
Steps:
-
Start Jupyter yourself (from a terminal):
jupyter lab # or jupyter notebook -
When it starts, copy the full URL from the terminal output, e.g. something like:
http://localhost:8888/?token=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX -
Go back to Cursor.
When it asks you to select a kernel / Jupyter server, choose the option to connect to an existing server (or wherever it lets you paste a URL). -
Paste the Jupyter URL you copied and confirm.
After doing this, kernel selection works correctly and I can run cells from Cursor without issues.
Same issue in here.
This workaround did it for me, tysm!
