Manual Control Over Request Speed & Notification Settings

Hi Cursor team,

I’m a Pro user and I have two suggestions that I believe would improve the user experience:

  1. Option to Disable Slow Request Notifications
  • Currently, the “Slow request” popup appears every time when using the slow request pool
  • This notification can be distracting, especially when users are okay with slower responses
  • Suggestion: Add a toggle in Settings to disable these notifications
  • Users who are fine with slow requests shouldn’t need to click “Cancel” repeatedly
  1. Manual Control Over Request Pool Selection
  • Currently, fast requests are used automatically until depleted
  • Some users might want to save their fast requests for more important tasks
  • Suggestion: Add a toggle in Settings to manually switch between fast/slow request pools or just put the toggle near the “chat”(in version 0.46.x) or so
  • This would help users better manage their monthly quota of 500 fast requests

Benefits:

  • Better user experience with less interruptions
  • More control over fast request usage
  • Helps users save fast requests for when they’re really needed
  • Reduces notification fatigue

I understand this might affect server load balancing, but perhaps you could implement a cooldown period for switching between pools to mitigate this.

Thank you for considering these suggestions. Cursor is a great tool, and these additions would make it even better!

P.S. English is not my native language, please excuse any language errors.

I saw the official response about manual pool switching, and I understand it might be technically challenging to implement the second suggestion due to server load balancing and other technical considerations.

However, I’d like to emphasize the importance of the first suggestion - disabling the slow request notifications. This feature should be relatively simple to implement and would significantly improve user experience:

  1. It’s purely a UI enhancement that doesn’t affect server operations
  2. Many users like me, who use Cursor for regular development tasks (not time-critical), are perfectly fine with slow requests and don’t need a reminder every time
  3. The notification, which takes up screen space, is visually disruptive and breaks concentration even if we ignore it ------ it affects both aesthetics and workflow

Even if the manual pool switching isn’t feasible right now, having an option to disable these notifications would be a great quality-of-life improvement for users who primarily use slow requests.
