MCP servers are not exposed to agents

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

The agents can’t see the MCP servers or their tools. The servers and their tools DO show properly in user settings. I tried reinstalling Cursor completely (including deleting ~./.cursor and ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor) and it didn’t help. The problem persists across workspaces and agent models.

Steps to Reproduce

  • install the context7 MCP server
  • ask an agent to use it

Hey, thanks for the report. This looks like a known issue in version 2.0.77 where some tools aren’t actually exposed to the agent, even though they appear as connected in Settings.

To help the engineering team investigate, please share:

  • Which specific agent models you tested?
  • The Request ID when you try to use the context7 MCP server (Chat context menu → Copy Request ID)

Once we have these details, I’ll escalate your case.

Hey, I’m having the same issue.

Cursor version: 2.1.17

Agents: composer 1, sonnet 4.5

Request ID: bcc2e8bf-1e1d-47c3-9fed-1529f7becac8

Here are the mcp’s cursor having problem to access: run-test-mcp-server and @playwright/mcp@latest from Microsoft/Playwright team

Thanks!

Models tested: Composer, Sonnet 4.5, Gemini 3 Pro, GPT-5.1 Codex

Request IDs: ba11d35e-177c-477d-93ca-298a804b74d1, ac1480c1-45a7-43fe-9e94-37675ea64a33, d4fd3dfa-72c8-436d-8487-9461a23da902, b347459e-dc2c-4601-828e-40df928b212d

I just tested it now again to get the request IDs with this version:

Version: 2.1.20
VSCode Version: 1.105.1

Seeing similar issues with playwright-test as well. The issues started since agent mode was introduced as part of ver 2.0.
Downgrading to ver 1.7 and below fixes this btw

Hi, any update with this issue? 'I’m surprised this is not getting resolved as a hotfix. I can’t run any mcp server in Cursor.

If I’m missing something to make this work, please let me know. Thanks!
