Memory Leak / Disk Space Reclamation

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

After 24+ hours of idle time across two open windows, CPU usage spikes to 100% and available disk space drops drastically. A system reboot restores ~14 GB of free space.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Keep two Cursor windows open for ~24 hours (one idle for 8 hours).
  2. Observe increasing CPU and I/O activity.
  3. Check disk space before and after reboot.

Expected Behavior

Cursor should not leak memory or fill temporary storage when idle and definitely not eat up 14GB+.

hi @SkinnnyJay and thank you for the detailed bug report.

Could you check following and provide more information so we can reproduce it.

  • Please check Help > Open Process Explorer and post here a screenshot.
  • Do you have any processes running in terminal within Cursor?
  • Does this also occur on a new project? (would indicate large chat storage)
  • Does this occur when you run with extensions disabled? cursor --disable-extensions
