Multi monitor setup

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

i have 3 monitors setup at work.
i want to have some windows opened on each monitor to maximise my workflow
i want code window on my primary monitor, and then be able to move the agent chat window to another monitor.

so i try “open in new window” and it does, so i move that window to a new monitor, but then i suddenly can’t type in the agent chat window anymore :frowning:

now if i drag it back to the main monitor it still is broken. i literally have to close it and reopen it from the “agents” pane.

am i doing something wrong? this feels pretty fundamental to a modern development workspace setup.

Steps to Reproduce

Open agent in editor
Drag to a new window, or right click and select “open in new window”
Now move that window to a new monitor can still type for now
Submit / post the prompt … agent responds, but now the chat window is frozen, cannot enter a new prompt.

Even if i move this back to the “main” window, the agent editor is frozen.
So i have to completely close it, relaunch it, open past chat in editor
and then it works again

Expected Behavior

Moving to a new monitor should not break the agent editor

This happens to me too, just tested. I do get it to work though, but something is broken.

  • Click triple dots > Open Chat as Editor > Click + to create new chat > drag the new chat tab to other monitor where it opens up in its own window > then I can’t type in chat > create a new chat then I can type in both
  • This issue does not happen if I drag a past chat to the other monitor
  • This issue does not happen if I drag a new chat outside the IDE but keep it on the same monitor where it still opens up in its own window

definitely feels “buggy” … it doesn’t behave as i expect.
doing this is in VS Code just works …. there’s the “open CoPilot in new window” move to wherever i want, and then my main window stays.

i find Cursor “open in panel” “open in editor” cumbersome and confusing.

Hey, thanks for the report. Unfortunately, Cursor doesn’t fully support a new chat window yet, but we might fix this soon. In the meantime, as a workaround, you can try restarting the chat window, and then text input should work.
