Native Voice Mode prompt field fails to clear after hitting Enter (Windows 11)

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

When using Cursor’s built-in Voice Mode via the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+Space), typing or dictating a prompt and hitting Enter successfully submits the message to the AI. However, immediately after sending, the entire text content of the message refills and remains stuck inside the input field. The input field fails to clear its active state, forcing the user to manually select all and delete the previous message before they can type or dictate a follow-up.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Click into the Cursor chat or Agent input panel on Windows 11.
  2. Activate Cursor’s native voice dictation using the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+Space).
  3. Dictate a prompt.
  4. Press Enter to submit the message to the model.
  5. Observe that the prompt is sent, but the exact same transcribed text immediately reappears/remains in the active prompt box.

Expected Behavior

The text input box should completely clear out immediately after the message is sent, returning to an empty state ready for a follow-up prompt.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Additional Information

Tested Workaround: Using the native Windows 11 Voice Typing launcher (Windows Key + H) to dictate text into the same chat box successfully clears the field on send. The bug only occurs when utilizing Cursor’s built-in microphone feature/shortcut, suggesting a state-clearing conflict with Cursor’s internal audio stream listener.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @comic-book-shop,

Thanks for the clear steps. This looks like it happens when Enter is pressed while Cursor’s dictation is still recording. Sending the message clears the box and stops the mic, but the final transcription from that recording arrives a moment later and gets written back into the now-empty box. I’ve flagged this to the team.

In the meantime, stopping dictation before you send should avoid it:

  1. Dictate your prompt with Ctrl+Shift+Space as usual.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+Space again (or click the stop/check button on the voice bar) to end the recording.
  3. Wait until the text stops updating.
  4. Press Enter.

Windows voice typing (Win+H) will keep working normally too, since it doesn’t use Cursor’s recorder. Could you let me know whether stopping first keeps the box clear for you?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for taking a look at this.

I can confirm that pressing Ctrl+Shift+Space again before pressing enter works as expected.
