"Open with Cursor" option to the right-click context menu for files and folders

Hi Cursor team,

I’m writing to suggest adding an “Open with Cursor” option to the right-click context menu for files and folders. This would streamline the workflow for users who frequently work with Cursor editor, similar to how VSCode can be accessed from the context menu.

This feature would allow users to:

  • Right-click on any file to open it directly in Cursor
  • Right-click on folders to open them as a project in Cursor
  • Save time by avoiding the need to first open Cursor and then navigate to the desired file/folder

Many developers use Cursor as their primary code editor, and having quick access through the context menu would significantly improve the user experience.

Would it be possible to consider adding this functionality in a future update?

We need this, it is a pain to always have to go to file open, I find myself opening vscode most of the times and the regretting not doing it the long way and do it via cursor. Please add it.

Hey, thanks for the feedback, I find myself wanting this too.

While not an official fix or recommendation, if you are on Windows, there are projects available to add this in, that you may be able to use (but you would do so at your own risk):

Works great! Thank you @danperks

For Mac, I have developed a variation of the aforementioned Git repository.
