Hey, this is a known issue. Getting stuck on “Planning next moves” is often related to Auto mode and or network behavior.

Try this:

  1. Switch from Auto to a specific model like Claude 4.6 Sonnet or GPT-5. A few users confirmed this helps work around it: My chats are just hanging with "Planning next moves" and "Taking longer than expected..."

  2. Disable HTTP/2: Settings Ctrl+, then search for HTTP/2 then enable Disable HTTP/2 then fully restart Cursor.

  3. Run Cursor Settings > Network > Run Diagnostics and paste the results here. This will show if there are network issues.

Also, please share your exact Cursor version via Help > About, and the Request ID from the stuck chat via right top chat menu > Copy Request ID.
