I really like Jetbrains UI, know theirs products. From IDEA to Android Studio. Plugin for Composer would be the best thing!
Intellij is the chosen development environment for our Java apps. For them, it works well. The close integration with gitlab is important for us.
But as a coding assistance, Cursor is superior. I am switching between the two. It would be nice to have Cursor’s AI and Chat embedded in Intellij as a plugin.
Adding my vote here as well. Jetbrains IDE’s are quite specialized and provide tailored tools and specialized functionalities for many different languages and use cases. I won’t go into Jetbrains vs VS Code, as I only use the latter so I can use Cursor, but suffice it to say that Jetbrains IDE’s have a very large user base who are comitted to keep using it. Either due to habit, or due to functionality specific to those IDE’s. In any case it’s sure to be a revenue booster for you guys. And I think Jetbrains offers quite extensive access via their plugin API.
Currently I’m also using VS Code and PyCharm/RustRover simultaneously, which is a bit of a hassle. I’m very willing to pay for a Jetbrains plugin. Cursor is great.
+1.
But honestly, we should be asking JetBrains to implement the same features as Cursor! They’re the ones we’re paying.
Unfortunately, their response to the evolving tech landscape has been completely off the mark so far!
actually, JetBrains have made this announcement: Junie, the coding agent by JetBrains
It will be interesting to understand their strategy:
- Are they going to partner with Cursor
- Are they going to build their own?
In any case, I don’t think that having Java developers on a VSCode-based IDE is a long-term solution, just a temporary hack.
I’ve recently switched to w1ndsurf to test if their fork of VSCode is better, but it ■■■■■ the same, so it’s Cursor’s fault for picking VSCode :). I would love a JetBrains integration. Cursor and w1ndsurf are neck at neck right now. I would come back to Cursor if they would use JetBrains. I the meantime I am waiting for JetBrains Junie access to test it out.
+1 to Jetbrains plugin! Every time I try to use VSCode I always come back to Jetbrains products for one main reason: The Git integration in Jetbrains products (GoLand, IntelliJ, etc) is very tight and intuitive. From making commits to viewing changelog to cherry picking, it’s fantastic!
I’d love to have cursorAI plugin for jetbrains, best of both worlds, any news on that?
I do the same hahaha, currently I’m using both IDEs, it ■■■■■
+1 to Jetbrains plugin!
+1.
I have been being a JetBrains IDE user for years (mainly PyCharm, Rider and CLion). They have great integration into many domain specific stuff, build systems, test infrastructure, debugger, etc. Their editor is good enough to use, but of course I can achieve better productivity with the help of Cursor agent/ask/edit.
The Cursor editor itself is VSCode based, which is okay for projects that are not complex, i.e. small demo, benchmark, relatively isolated module of some (probably large) system. But, from my point of view, when it comes to complex systems, polished IDE features (fast navigation, logic visualization, framework integration etc.) play a critical role in development experience, and thus it might be hard for developers to get rid of them. A good example is Unity/UnrealEngine development with Rider.
Of course one may argue that developers can do human edits in IDEs and do AI edits in Cursor. I would say they will definitely be exhausted by differences of key mapping, layout and other visual elements. Even worse, undos are no longer tracked consistently.
While I acknowledge it might be too limited to implement some of Cursor’s features as a plugin, it is still nice to have what Codeium provides.
+1 want Cursor in Rider
Yes please … VS Code ■■■■■ …
My workaround is open the project in two IDEs
Use cursor for Composer and Chat, then move to intillij for code editing, and integration like DB, Terminal, Version Control, AND KEYMAP
Same here. Maybe a plugin to use at IntelliJ would be nice
Yes please give us a cursor plugin for jetbrains ides. The cursor ai features are leaps and bounds better than what jetbrains is offering but im tired of fighting with vscode. I may switch to use claude code with jetbrains if vursor doesnt come out with anything.
this is very useful, I’d love use in jetbrains, for now I’m using both IDEs
That would be exactly my request also. I’m using Rider for all my c#/dotnet apps and am using Cursor to create and then review/correct/debug and all other test & deployment stuff back in Rider.
Would be really great to have Chat & Composer as Plugin in Jetbrains IDEs!
+1 want Cursor in Rider
I would like to switch over from Github Copilot but Rider integration is a must before I do it. I develop Unity games and the Unity integration with Rider is much better than VS Code.
same here
