Imo Cursor is hands down the best AI editor however, IntelliJ (or other) IDEs are preferable to many instead of VSCode. The recently released Junie AI is brilliant, as well as other multi-platform competitors such as Augment. I personally have a preference for IntelliJ and have moved to using Junie/Augment but I prefer Cursor.
The Cursor team are clearly talented at product building but I think it needs to extend its service beyond the Cursor IDE. While integrating with IntelliJ requires more work I think Cursor’s service can definitely be decoupled from the Cursor IDE.
I’m not sure if others hold this view. I’d drop Augment for Cursor in IntelliJ (even if the feature set is limited to begin with) and I think Cursor’s market would grow.
