I just signed up fro pro but have a question. Is there a way to use a custom “Rules of AI” for each project/window im working on?
so for example i have to have 1 set of “Rules for AI” when im working on webdev projects ie css, javascript, html etc. and then have a different set of AI Rules/prompt for a ios/swift project window.
is that possible?

@billyneam - I believe a related question and answer is here:
@truell20
Can you please let me know:
Where is the .cursorrules file located?
Is there just one .cursorrules file?
In Cursor Settings > General, what is the relationship between:
The Rules for AI textarea field
The Include .cursorrules file toggle option
Do rules added to the Rules for AI textarea automatically get added to a .cursorrules file?
I am having difficulty conceptualising what these two field settings do, how they relate to each other and what their scope is.
I add…
hi thanks yea i read that but the answer is still a bit hazy
" 1. Rules for AI is global, if .cursorrules present in repo, will be appended (i guess? maybe prepended) to rules for AI."
appended vs prepended will likely cause very different responses.
So which one is it?
Maybe the best option would be to leave “Rules for AI” empty and only use
cursorrules file on the project level?
id prefer not appending additional instructions and only want 1 set of rules / system prompt but focused for a project specific language

Yep this is what i do
No global rules and when i need rules i either copy one of my templates to the specific project or create a new one.
Just wish there was a .cursorindex as well
