I am an ultra user yeah but only 550. must be nice!! I might get a second ultra sub. Very frustrating
Ridiculous pricing, hitting limits in one week compared to 3 weeks and i moved to the 60usd plan!!! SO on a high level Iām getting 6x less usage.
Surely start showing which model auto is using so we know if its garbageā¦
Corporate greed and exploiting people who are already finding it harder to find work due to what you have created.
I love cursor but this new pricing is deeply upsetting.
Iām on the 20$ plan and I already used more than 30$ of tokens, without counting the auto and GPT5 which are free, is everyone experiencing the same?
That means itās not really just ā20$ worth of APIāā¦
Previously, Gemini 2.5 Flash and Deepseek v3 were both free on the Pro plan. Now that a comprehensive token-based billing model has been adopted, are these models still free? I couldnāt find any information about this in the documentation. Can someone clarify this for me?
Last month I used $94, this month I only used $43 to trigger the limits
GPT-5 usage during the free period is counted toward the limit
GPT-5-mini does not appear to count towards the monthly limits it seems.
If youāre subscribed to the Pro version of Cursor, try emailing [email protected] as I did get a response from them within a few days back when I emailed in early July. Your mileage may vary, good luck ![]()
OpenAI CLI : fixed price, unlimited usage (rate-limited)
Copilot : fixed price, unlimited usage
Anthropic CLI : fixed price, unlimited usage (rate limited)
Cursor : API price (donāt worry they get discount on them, but not you), + their 20% margin.
So, why not just I use on any on these tools my API key instead of you, save 20% flat ?
It comes down to which tool you prefer to work with. If the CLIās with the model providers themselves work for you, youāre always going to get a better deal working with them directly. Also I donāt know why Cursor doesnāt advertise this more, but there are free unlimited models on Cursor (GPT-5-mini) that donāt count towards monthly usage limits.
But if Cursor as a tool, its features (tab completion, check points, etc), the IDE, is not what you care about, then yea, why stay with Cursor.
Cursor uses its own CLI tool, itās better because you donāt need to click each file of your codebase, the context can also be elastic so CLI is by design superior.
Is it ? For me it costs requests so Iām quite certain it is free as āslowā requests on the tab I donāt use because itās a waste of time. Also being capped at 25 actions is ludicrous and designed to make you throw tokens, which the CLI doesnāt.
Tools of third parties also improve massively this CLI. If you prefer to waste time choosing which files for context (maybe you are working of tiny parts of a project which is okay, for infrastructure changes itās a nightmare). Also having to start it all over after 3 promptsā¦
CLI from cursor is what I used, or claude code which imo is inferior to GPT-5, still Iāll test a last month to see.
In september your free thing will be billed or unusable, itās the point of this entire discussion.
I have not read that GPT-5-mini will be billed differently after September, but since its not officially mentioned as free, maybe it would. Yea, sometimes it can be slow, so maybe that is how they are making it free. Regardless, it cost cents, so I wouldnāt mind if it wasnāt free. I rarely use Auto (the unlimited free model) anymore, since GPT-5-mini is better in most situations. I assume that is how Cursor is going to get people who are grandfathered into free unlimited Auto to stop using it.
how the f did you manage to do that and how is it Cursorās faultā¦
Oh you used it alright. You used it real good.
(and they still gave you an extra $120)
Oh god, your code must be THE BOSS of AI slopsā¦
Dear god. And Iām sure you just had to use -thinking and -fast didnāt you. Iād love to see your prompts.
this is amazing work they should give you free access for this lol
Hi, I have been a cursor user since you guys started, and the way you handled the pricing change is really, really disappointing to me. @danperks you wrote that the existing users who purchased the yearly cursor subscription can decide to opt out. Since I found out about the change recently, I requested to opt-out through the email and got this āAIā response.
What is this supposed to be? When did you announce that we have a 2-month period to opt out? You canāt change your terms of service without informing users. Why do we even have to opt out in the first place? This is supposed to be opt-in for the yearly users. And why is your AI bot not responding to my further questions?
Can you guys own up to your mistakes and handle this change as any serious business would? This behavior is outright ridiculous.
