Pricing Megathread and Q&A

I found that the cost of Cluade Code4 is not that expensive. I actually found a free proxy website online, and I suspect that the cursor is deceiving. 500 is less than 500 per month. I used the statistical token s489021 for two days without any speed limit, and I found that it calculates very few tokens, so I think the official price of Cluade Code4 is very low!

I haven’t cheated at all. I have been running claude code4 for 48 hours without any interruption! And the pure free $100 gift fee

The new dashboard design looks great, and I can see how many tokens/credits I’ve spent. But I haven’t been able to locate how many tokens/credits I have left.

Is this information hidden somewhere in the interface, or is it currently not displayed?

It’s a bit like hitting the road without knowing how much fuel I’ve got in the tank. I’d really appreciate any help or clarification

Cursor is like a beat-up jalopy that guzzles tokens like they’re candy at a crossroads! You pour in 20 bucks, and—miracle of miracles—it lurches forward, only to crawl maybe as far as the next lamppost. Why? Because the fuel tank’s a sieve: gas gushes out of every crack, and the bottom’s probably been sold for scrap metal.

The manufacturer sweet-talks you with promises of an “unlimited” tank, but here’s the catch: you’re chugging along like a doped-up turtle, and every tap on the gas pedal costs a crisp dollar. So there you are, shelling out for every inch, while the car belches smoke like an offended dragon, hinting that the “premium fumes” come with an extra fee!

@danperks is this statement accurate? If so, does that mean specific models for which credits have been exhausted in a given month are excluded if we switch to Auto?

Translation of this message: I will always use gpt4.1 which is a stupid model.

@danperks

Wrt Auto mode, it’s important for users to know which model was used since they aren’t interchangeable. We’re all trying to gain an intuition around which model to choose for which task.

I’m posting this in the pricing Q&A because it’s directly related. Happy to add a feature request as well.

The new pricing has become unprofitable. If before the agent often made mistakes and these mistakes cost cents - it was possible to put up with it. But now, Cloud 4 Sonnet simply wrote off $ 50 from me for 4 hours of work, or rather, it did not write off, but stole, so it completes the task on the 20th try and simply steals my money! I have a feeling that this mechanism is specially configured this way. In addition, this stupid bot each time “specially” avoids the task “And now I will look where else this is used and fix it there, and there, and there, and there” and simply breaks everything. Although the rules clearly state, ask permission each time before editing the code! But the first 2 minutes it remembers this, and then “forgets” and starts to be stupid again, edit the code outside the task and … write a lot of his stupid unnecessary thoughts, spending my tokens. I do not need his stupid romantic stories about life! Also, every time he starts making test scripts, although this is prohibited in the rules! I don’t think that the developers from Anthropic are so stupid as not to know this, I think this is done on purpose to extract more money from users!
And why, if I did not click Accept, the money is written off?

Ok, so coming back to Cursor after a couple of weeks off, and this discussion has me worried.

Could someone answer this question:

My old workflow was to use GPT models mostly with occasional Gemini and Claude until my $20 was used up, and then continue with usage based pricing, spending up to $60/mo. The usage pricing was reasonable, API cost plus 20%. I use Max mode about half the time. I never use Auto mode or free models, as they just waste my time, and I don’t expect to get anything for free.

The question is: can I continue with my workflow above without worrying about spending a ton of extra money or getting locked out? It seems like I should be able to since API prices haven’t gone up, right?

and how is it even legally possible that I bought an annual account at the current rate at that time, having signed the agreement in force at that time, and then it was forcibly cancelled without my consent and even without notification? Like “We really need the money, give it to us”
I definitely started looking for an alternative solution, because paying $20-50 for 2 hours of work defeats the whole point of this product.

Same here…been using CC for a week without issues and if you learn how to properly structure CC and be meticulous in your planning and execution - CC wins. I don’t miss the silly emojis that Cursor was spitting out that was really giving false hope. I am probably going to cancel my cursor plan and keep claude code.

I am currently on the pro model, and I want to switch to pro+ but I cant see that option in my stripe billing to update subscription (cant see ultra either). I already paid annually. How can I update it? @danperks

What kind of double expansion is everyone talking about here? Previously, I spent from $3 to $5 (maximum) per day using models. Yesterday, in 4 hours, they wrote me $50. I will definitely not be one of these users. It would be profitable if Coude 4 Sonnet performed each task clearly and without a single error, and not 1 out of 50 correctly! And now I just threw money down the drain.

This pricing change is the best example of how you can quickly destroy the billion dollar business.. Please remember Software Developers are not loyal to any tools as long as it works we stick to it without thinking much but when any tool starts to annoy the developers pocket / productivity with very sudden change which they only realize after their credit card is charged or their so called “Pro” plan is just over in a day and second day $25 are just gone without resolving any issue, bug or developing any new feature - its beyond frustrating and annoyance. I my self moved on and started using Windsurf which I never thought of using earlier and I am sure there are more people like me.

Excellent! Thank you! I installed Windsurf! It’s good when there is competition, a very good limiter of greed! It turns out that Cloude Sonnet 4 can be much cheaper) Cursor, how do you explain the fact that yours is 3 times more expensive? Do you really need the money?

For the most part I avoid agentic mode, except on a first pass. I prefer to set all my changes myself, and stop the output when it goes in the wrong direction. For the most part, auto mode works fine. I also find that agent mode consumes too many tokens unnecessarily. On occasion, I select a particular model for a specialized task. I don’t trust the AIs enough. One issue I have is them changing formatting and comments and formatting in my code when it makes its changes. I assume that will improve over time.

Hi I´ve Been a user of Cursor for almost a year! Recently i got some excess usage notification where it asked me to switch to pro plus+, i asked about details and it was said to me i would have 3x more access, and i´ve been charged 20 dollars already and it says my plan is suposed to get limited on the 14th…! I´ve ended up switching plans but now i havnt recieved any notification or e-mail explaining whats the usage plans now since i changed from a yearly subscriber to a monthly pro+ with indication of advantages that i havnt seen! Payed the + plan on the 2nd of july its the 13th and 20 dollars of consumption have been charged with a usage warning to stop on the 14th … we need some transparency on whats happening here!

How long until a reply from [email protected]? I emailed 3 days ago about opting out and going back to the old pricing plan. @danperks

Whilst I understand the rationale and that there is no such thing as “free”, I am patiently waiting for media outlets coverage of how big the fine from EU will be for breaking the European consumer law. I like cursor and will continue using it for now, but I think not all the legal basis were sufficiently covered before acting on this change.
Judging by the overall sentiment I’d say that it may be difficult to prove that your users explicitly and willingly agreed to new pricing model. Just to clarify I’m not a lawyer but any EU based service provider sends me prior notification requiring me to explicitly state I agree to even slight price fluctuations on the services I use, and well in advance, so my assumption is that this is required in such form by law otherwise it hard for me to imagine every company I buy digital services from has exact same procedures for that.

Cursor seems to deal with dissenters like this. This has never happened before and here, on o4mini in a slow request:
We’re having trouble connecting to the model provider. This might be temporary - please try again in a moment.
while my friend on the same network is fine.
what kind of a gang have you got together, banning from the forum, deleting topics, and now also limiting them?
