Projects Context

Trying out Projects - and the context numbers seem to allow going more than 100%, so it is a bit confusing. It never really seems to improve, it’s just always full.

Is there any way to clear the context? Or do you need to start a new project?

Hey @cam, thanks for flagging this, and for the screenshot.

You’re reading it right. With Opus 5.5 and Context set to 300K, the Project’s main chat is currently being run with a much larger window behind the scenes. So it doesn’t summarize when it gets close to 300K, and the counter (which measures against your 300K pick) climbs past 100%.

This is a known issue the team is actively working on, and your report has been added to it.

In the meantime, you can compress the main chat manually by sending /summarize while the coordinator is idle. Heavier work is also better handed off to the agents it launches, since each one gets a fresh context window.

Thanks Colin.

I have mostly been messaging in the main chat to let it pass things on to the correct sub-agents. It would be great to have more long-form content on best ways to use projects.

Hey @cam, following up: this is now fixed. With Opus 5.5 set to 300K, the Project’s main chat now runs against a 300K limit and summarizes automatically as it approaches it, so the counter shouldn’t climb past 100% anymore. No update is needed, and if your coordinator is already over 100%, it will summarize on its next turn.

@Jordan_Dawe, to your question: you don’t need to start a new Project. The main chat summarizes on its own as it fills up, and you can also send /summarize while the coordinator is idle to compress it on demand.

Thanks!
