Feature request for product/service
Describe the request
Whoever maintains the C# page, could you please update it to include open-source or free extension options?
Currently, the documentation at C# | Cursor Docs only lists ReSharper as the recommended extension for code analysis, IntelliSense enhancements, navigation, and other C# development features.
ReSharper is a commercial, closed source product, and requires a paid license. Many developers evaluating Cursor for C# may come away with the impression that purchasing ReSharper is the ONLY practical way to get a good C# experience.
That’s especially problematic because:
- The Cursor-maintained C# extension is no longer actively updated.
- Microsoft’s official C# extension is only available for VS Code.
- The page does not mention that there is now a free and open-source alternative: GitHub - JaneySprings/DotRush: Lightweight C# development environment for VSCode · GitHub
I recently recommended Cursor to someone who primarily works with C#. After looking at the C# page and seeing ReSharper presented as the recommended solution, their immediate reaction was: “Why would I use Cursor if I have to buy a ReSharper license to get a good C# experience?”
They quickly lost interest before I even had a chance to explain that free alternatives exist. Their assumption became: " I can just use VS Code with Copilot for free IDE with paid AI." At that point, Cursor had effectively lost the evaluation before they had even tried it.
I suspect this isn’t an isolated case. Every developer who lands on the C# page and sees only a commercial solution being recommended is a potential user who may conclude that C# in Cursor has additional licensing costs attached and decide not to evaluate it further.
That’s why I think DotRush should be listed alongside ReSharper. Even if users ultimately choose ReSharper, they should at least know that a free and open-source alternative exists.
Thank you for considering.
