Rules are not applied

I have a cursor rule that tells the model to declare “ASSUMPTION” in its responses. It used to work every time until the new UI shipped. Now it doesn’t happen and the model clearly doesn’t follow any other rules I have specified. The difference in behavior is clear.

I tested the same exact rules directly on claude ai and received expected behavior. So the problem is clearly with how cursor (doesn’t) apply the rules I specified in settings.

Same experience. No matter how emphatic the rule description, rules are never or almost-never applied.

Yes same here. It is very rare that rules are applied. It was working better with .cursorrules. Conceptually, I really like the new approach though.
Any feedback or recommendations?

Two questions.
When you open the settings for the cursor rules, do you have the same picture as me?

description and globs

When you open a rule, do you see this or not?

description: ACTION when TRIGGER to OUTCOME

globs: .cursor/rules/**/*.mdc

alwaysApply: {true or false}

Also pay attention to the “Rule Type” and the wording of the “description” “ACTION when TRIGGER to OUTCOME”, the words must trigger the cursor.
