Seamless Account Switching in Cursor

Updated the guide to show this, thanks!

Plus 1 for this, as this workaround for managing multiple customer projects (e.g. customer’s customers) and multiple personal projects requires either.

  1. A shortcut for every project folder
  2. Or a shortcut to the CustomerN parent folder (and once logged into Cursor IDE, then browse to the specific application folder under the parent.

Examples:

Personal (need to use personal Cursor account for billing)
/PersonalProjects/Project1
/PersonalProjects/Project2
/PersonalProjects/Project3

Customer1 (need to use Customer 1’s Cursor account for billing)
/Customer1/Project1
/Customer1/Project2
/Customer1/Project3

Customer2 (need to use Customer 2’s Cursor account for billing)
/Customer2/Project1
/Customer2/Project2
/Customer2/Project3

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

I use Cursor for my company assignments and my personal projects. I need a way to switch between accounts so I don’t get accused of “using company resources”.

Operating System (if it applies)

MacOS

Plus 1 here too – switching from personal to work projects is a pain. I’d be happy with either project-based accounts or an account switcher.

The feature should be usefull.
+1 in waiting list

I’m surprised to find that this doesn’t have more support.

yeap, easily switch between personal and work account will make life way more pleasant.

must-have for consultants and contractors working with multiple clients

Can I add, maybe a simple way to achieve this for Cursor is let us use an account per workspace! I usually have multiple cursor windows open per workspace, so work workspace, side projects workspace. I know there is the other workaround, but if youre going to implement this, maybe let us control account per workspace.

I think the current ways that exist don’t work well with mcp authentications. Like if I try to auth through an MCP it would work with only the main profile.
Any body figured out something for this case? Need help

I’ve setup cursor with another installation on mac (copy folders etc.) in order to have 2 accounts running at the same time.
To be honest, it’s a bit of a nightmare to maintain with updates. Updates are sometimes failing, sometimes not relaunching the custom installation.

Can we have this feature ?
1 account per workspace would be a pretty good feature to have !

+1 for this

+1 for this needed

bump, also have company and personal account, both paid

+1 one for this. It would be great to have this feature available on the web dashboard and in the IDE configuration settings.

+1 Please implement something for this. I got a major telling off at work this morning for spending my teams entire cursor usage budget over the weekend :grimacing:

I’ll second what some other people have said above, would be great to have the account switch automatically depending on the workspace. A simple file in the .cursor folder would be ideal. I know the data-dir workaround somewhat solves the issue but when you have 100’s of workspaces some work related, some freelance and some personal it doesn’t scale.

For now I’ll be cancelling my personal license and using Claude instead for personal to ensure I don’t go over my usage again.

+1 Please, I’m almost canceling my personal account and starting to use another solution just because I can’t easily switch from my personal account to my company account.

Please :folded_hands:

i did cancel my personal account for the time being :person_shrugging:

I’m just using different tools for the moment for my personal projects
