Showcase: Apple Music MCP Server for Cursor (74 Tools, Spotify Importer & Autonomous DJ)

Hey everyone,

I built an open-source MCP server for Cursor that connects directly to macOS Music.app via local AppleScript and native CoreAudio timing, exposing 74 tools to Cursor Agent and Composer.

Why build this?
Most music MCP servers only expose 4 or 5 basic commands (play/pause/skip). When working long coding sessions in Cursor, I wanted full control without leaving the editor: importing public Spotify playlists without logging in, adjusting per-speaker AirPlay volumes, and running background DJ transitions.

Core Features:

  • 74 Native Tools: Playback, queue manipulation, search, EQ presets, shuffle modes, lyrics (LRCLIB), and universal song.link sharing.
  • Spotify Playlist Importer: Drop any public Spotify URL into Cursor chat, and it resolves and recreates the playlist in Apple Music locally (zero API tokens or credentials required).
  • Autonomous Local DJ Daemon: Deterministic beat-matching loop running at 0 tokens/sec. The LLM kicks off the mix, and native local code handles the 120ms CoreAudio playback engine compensation.
  • AirPlay Multi-Room Control: Set individual volumes and toggle speakers across rooms.
  • Local Listening Analytics: SQLite-backed listening history and monthly replay generator.

How to add to Cursor:
Add this to your Cursor MCP settings (~/.cursor/mcp.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "applemusic": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": ["git+https://github.com/suleyman416/mcp-applemusic.git"]
    }
  }
}
