Please see 204387. The issue indicates that this has been fixed upstream but either the fix is not available in Cursor or the issue has reemerged.

I have just confirmed this issue in the latest vscode-insiders as well. Appears root cause may be different than the cited issue. See Git Extension doesn't detect repo - MacOS homebrew · Issue #232049 · microsoft/vscode · GitHub

Note that this issue provides a work-around as well.
