This is a bit strange, so I’m not sure if this is a feature request or a bug.
I use Cursor in two ways
Through the Cursor IDE
Through the IntelliJ IDE
Inside IntelliJ, if there were new files created, the agent window in IntelliJ gives me the option to add those files to Git. However, when I do the same thing in the Cursor IDE, I do not get that option. I only see # files changed. This had led me to sometimes miss a file to stage when I do my push to the repository, breaking the build. I’m not sure if i’m missing a setting, or this is just not something that the Cursor IDE does.
The “add to Git” prompt you see in IntelliJ comes from IntelliJ’s own version control settings, so it isn’t part of the Cursor agent. In the Cursor IDE you can stage files straight from the agent panel, it’s just a bit hidden:
After the agent finishes, click Keep All (or accept the changes) so nothing is pending.
Expand the “# files changed” bar above the chat input.
Hover over a file. A + (Stage File) button appears on the right. Click it to stage that file, new files included.
You can also open Review from that bar and use Commit. It stages the files you select, including new ones, and commits them.
To catch new files before you push, the Source Control view (Ctrl+Shift+G) lists them with a U (untracked) marker, and Stage All Changes picks them up. If new files never show up there, check that git.untrackedChanges isn’t set to hidden in your settings.
If you’d like Cursor to prompt you about new files the way IntelliJ does, feel free to post that in Feature Requests!
