Strong Request for a Green Version and Delta Updates for Cursor

Dear [Cursor Development Team],

I am writing to express my concerns about the current update mechanism for the Cursor software. While I appreciate the continuous efforts put into its development, there are some critical issues that I believe need urgent attention:

  1. Full Package Update: Every time there is an update, it requires downloading the entire installation package. This process is not only inefficient but also consumes unnecessary bandwidth and storage. It would be much more efficient if you could implement a delta update mechanism, where only the parts of the software that have changed are updated, rather than downloading the entire package.
  2. Lack of a Portable Version: Currently, there is no green or portable version of the software available. A portable version is essential for users who prefer not to install software but want to use it on different machines without leaving traces. This is especially important for those who value flexibility and privacy.
  3. Slow Installation Process: The installation process for the full package is quite slow, which is an inconvenience for users. A more efficient installation method, perhaps focusing on smaller, incremental updates, would greatly enhance the user experience.

Given these concerns, I strongly urge you to consider the following:

  • Develop a portable, green version of Cursor that can be run directly from a USB drive or any other portable storage device without the need for installation.
  • Implement a delta update system to allow users to only download the necessary changes, significantly reducing the time and bandwidth required for updates.
  • Improve the overall installation speed to make the process faster and more seamless for users.

I believe these changes would significantly enhance the user experience and make Cursor even more attractive to a broader audience. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to seeing improvements in future releases.

Best regards,

Does VSCode have these installation options / features? Cursor is a fork of this I believe
