Hi everyone,
I’ve been using Cursor for the past couple of months and really love it.
That said, I’ve started to run into some real concerns with the current pricing model, particularly around API usage and Agent mode. I was surprised to see that a single message in Agent mode under usage-based billing cost me $0.59 for 185.999 tokens on Claude 4 Sonnet. For personal use, that’s just not sustainable.
I totally understand that the team needs to cover costs and scale responsibly. This isn’t meant as a complaint against the people building Cursor. I really appreciate what you’ve created. I’m mostly just venting and hoping to hear from others who might be in a similar spot.
Right now, the Pro plan feels like it gives just enough access to get you invested, but anything beyond light use ends up either hitting hard rate limits or pushing you into usage-based pricing that ramps up quickly. Agent is technically included in Pro, but in practice, it’s hard to use meaningfully without incurring extra cost.
I actually preferred the old pricing model. It gave me more structure and direction. I knew what I had to work with and could tailor my workflow accordingly. The current setup feels more unpredictable and harder to plan around.
I really want to keep using and supporting Cursor, but as a personal user, I’m finding it harder to justify when the experience is often defined by waiting for the billing cycle to reset or worrying about surprise charges.
You could say “just pay for Pro+,” and I could do that, but I’m hesitant. I’m worried that plan might also get ‘watered down’ over time, like we saw with the basic Pro plan.
Curious if others are feeling the same. Not trying to bash Cursor at all. Just sharing some honest thoughts and frustrations from a personal-use perspective.
